‘Last Night a DJ Changed My Life’ Lowlife party on a cold, dark Saturday evening in February 2002 – the 16th to be precise – I, Sejal, was very much looking forward to Bill and Frank’s Valentines-themed Low Life party at The Fortress, Old Street, London. I had been coming to Low Life parties since 2000, was happily single, and hadn’t been expecting to meet ‘The One’ that night.

This was Ash’s first Low Life, and he forgets now how he came to be there, but I’m so glad he was! We passed one another on the staircase, where our eyes fleetingly locked on each other’s. That was the start of our beautiful relationship. Ash tells me that after we saw each other and I had disappeared, he had sat on a sofa in the stairwell with one of his friends. After a few moments, he turned to his pal and told him that he was going to, “go and find that girl”, to which his friend responded, “that sounds like an excellent idea!”. Minutes later, and with a little help from the ‘Love Fairies’ Ash found me on the dancefloor and introduced himself…and the rest is history.

Three years later, we were married on the breath-taking island of Santorini, Greece, where Frank from Lowlife DJed at our wedding reception playing funky disco anthems (plus the odd bhangra track!) against the backdrop of the Aegean Sea. I believe Ash and I were the first Low Life wedding. It feels so special to have been part of these iconic club nights. With Bill and Frank’s amazing Lowife parties, quite literally, a DJ changed my life.
