‘Andrew - my best friend - and I really wanted to give each other a Xmas present but we didn’t know what. All we wanted to do was go to the biggest gay club in the world which for us was Heaven. We’d been clubbing in Newcastle but we really wanted to go to London to see more gays, new gays, gays we’d never seen before! We booked a train ticket and a room in a hotel. I had a boyfriend of 4yrs but I knew on the train I was going to meet someone. I saw Mickael on the dancefloor and he was 100% my type. Dark hair, shorter than me and stocky (& French). I thought - there’s a person who’s been created just for me!’

‘At the time I was working at the Waldorf and living with my friend Olivier in a bedsit in Marble Arch. One night after work we went out with his friends to Q bar in Charing Cross. I was tired and wanted to go home. They all wanted to go to Heaven. We’d been given flyers that let us in for free. On arrival I saw Sean dancing with Andrew. I assumed he was Sean’s boyfriend. I thought Sean was so good looking. I started to dance with them and Sean offered me some poppers! We spent the rest of the night and weekend together and that was it. Sean returned home on the train. We met again in January when I went to Newcastle. I arrived at the station and I saw someone looking and I thought it was Sean.

‘I made my identical twin brother go and meet him. I was watching from a distance and could see Mickael’s face almost drop because our Gary didn’t know what Mickael looked like and for a moment I could see Mickael thinking oh my god he doesn’t recognise me. Then I jumped out from round the corner.’

‘Sean told me in March he was planning to move to London’

‘I’d not really planned to move to London but I knew I wanted to move I was just not sure how.’

Sean came down to London and never left. 25yrs later him and Mickael are still together, bought a house and still fancy each other as much as when they first met on Heaven’s dancefloor.
