‘The End was the best club in the world….I’d give anything to go back for one last dance in that space.’

For Steve The End was and still is the best club in the world. Stood outside it 11 years after it shut is not dissimilar to what it was all those years ago. A victim to the property boom it has been earmarked for development yet it still stands with it’s signature blue (now peeling) paint still holding on for dear life. Guardian signs indicate there are signs of life still inside manning these iconic premises until they crumble at the hands of regeneration.

The End was my home from home for many years. I first went in around 98/99 but it wasn’t until the 2000’s that I became a regular and Bugged Out with Erol Alkan was my main night but I saw everything from Layo & Bushwaka and Mr C to Mylo to Laurent Garnier to Miss Kittin on that dancefloor. The anticipation always built when you walked around the corner on to Westgate St and saw the queue (and there was always a massive queue) snake around the building but it wasn’t until you walked down the steps into the dark depths of the club and you could hear the bass of their legendary sound system that excitement levels went off the chart. The dark cavernous dancefloor with the DJ booth in the middle made you feel like everyone was equal and no matter where you danced the sound was tip top. The crowd were always super friendly and I met and formed so many friendships in there. I’d give anything to go back for one last dance in that space.
